Reaching out to participants early is the best way to keep data flowing through the transition. You're welcome to use or adapt the message below. Send it by email, include it in a study newsletter, or use it as a script when you walk participants through the process in person, whatever works best for your study.
Sample message
Dear participant,
As part of the research study, you've been sending your Fitbit data to us through a system that is being retired at the end of October. To keep sending data to us, you will need to grant permission again for our data management platform to pull data from the new system.
Please do this by [deadline] so we can continue gathering your data.
You can grant permission in either of two ways:
- Open the Google Health app on your phone and tap the banner at the top that says [banner text].
- Click [reauthorization link] to start the process of reauthorizing Fitabase to pull data on your behalf.
You only need to do one of these.
Again, please do this by [deadline] so we can continue gathering your data. Reply to this email with any questions.

Before sending, fill in the placeholders:
- [deadline]: the date you want participants to finish by. See Key Dates.
- [banner text]: the wording of the Google Health app banner. We'll publish it once Google makes it available.
- [reauthorization link]: the participant's unique link, copied from Invite participant to reauthorize on their row in Fitabase. Links are unique to each participant, so send each person their own.
